SPARK YOUR IMAGINATION ON A CREATIVE RETREAT WITH CURIOUS HOUSE

“The cure for boredom is curiosity.
There is no cure for curiosity.”

DOROTHY PARKER

A creatively lived life is one where you consistently choose the path of curiosity over the path of fear. We appreciate that it can sometimes be daunting to come away and explore a new skill. We have your back and will welcome to our small groups of creatives where people often arrive as strangers and leave as friends.

Days spent with Curious House allows time and space to explore your creativity, without being too attached to the outcome. With no interference from the outside world, you are free to build confidence in your natural skills and ability.

Our retreats and courses take place at The Bell in Ticehurst on the Kent and Sussex border. We work in the stunning Big Room where we can’t help but be inspired by the fabulous wallpaper exclusively designed by Hastings based artist Melissa White, who just happens to be one of our tutors.

Come for the day or enjoy a night or three sleeping over at The Bell - the perfect base from which to explore all the arty places that inspire us. The Towner Gallery in Eastbourne, the De La Warr Pavillion in Bexhill, The Hastings Contemporary Gallery and the gems on the Old Town in Hastings. There many fine art galleries in Rye and what we consider to be our spiritual home, Charleston Farmhouse near Lewes, a town which is a very happy hunting ground for all brocante and vintage lovers. This little corner of East Sussex was a real draw for the avant guard and bohemian. Farleys Farmhouse was the home of famous photographer Lee Miller and artist Roland Penrose and Monks House, also near Lewes was the last home of Virginia and Leonard Woolf.

It is common knowledge that if you make more art, your health and happiness will improve. Curious House gives you the time and space to flex your creative muscles and connect with like-minded souls in the heart of the East Sussex countryside, to hone your skills and ignite your creativity. Learning new things makes us more in tune with our bodies and more engaged with our minds. As we become fully absorbed in the process of making and creating, without it being something that we HAVE to do, we gain purpose and meaning.

And when you leave us, make time to put pen to paper, sketch, take a picture, turn up the music and dance.

Start a conversation and make it a good one!

We look forward to meeting to you.
