DELVING DEEPER – WITH DANI HUMBERSTONE 10th FEB, 10th MARCH, 14th APRIL 2025
Part of our occasional series of three mornings delving deeper into the art of painting with Dani. In these 3-hour sessions we have the luxury to time to develop our techniques and understanding. Participants are encouraged to continue their practice and bring their work each week for Dani to constructively critique and encourage. THIS IS COMPLETELY OPTIONAL.
Week one: Tonal Values
To better understand why some paintings work and others not so much, we will be delving into the theory of tones, including monochrome. We will practice what we learn with an artwork or two. For this session we will be working with mainly acrylic paints and charcoal.
Week two: Still Life
We will explore composition, this week with a still life study. Developing the techniques of week one the emphasis will be on tonal values, finding the light and shade that bring a painting to life. In week three we will learn the magical art of glazing once the paintings have had time to dry out. We will be working with oil paints for this session.
Week three: Abstract and Color
In this final session we will review our colour theory and color mixing before working on an abstract landscape. Bring your favourite scene, mindful of strong shapes, and interpret it in a bold and brilliant way. Participants have the option of working with oils or acrylic paints.
During this session we will also be learning how to glaze the still life paintings from the previous session.
The series of three sessions start at 10am through to 1pm and will cost £190 to include refreshments. We will supply you with a list of materials ahead of time - a worthwhile investment and will encourage you to keep at it!
This course benefits beginners and more experienced artist wishes to hone their skills. To get the most from this series, you may need to finish your work at home and and bring it along to each consecutive class. Dani will give you guidance and confidence to work at home and is always at the end of the phone or email for advice.
