INTRODUCTION TO STILL LIFE PAINTING WITH OILS WITH DANI HUMBERSTONE – TUESDAY 18th NOVEMBER 2025
As part of painting week, explore the techniques used by the Old Masters to bring layers of colour and texture to fruit still life painting in this intermediate course.
Dani’s specialism is fruit, so we will begin selecting a piece and then using some simple techniques, make a drawing ready to paint. After exploring basic colour theory and preparing our pallets the magical process of layering begins. Under Dani’s expert tuition you will be encouraged to look and look some more as she teaches us to use glazing techniques to create light and shade. You will learn how to blend the paint, an Old Masters technique to vanish brush marks to give the subject a more natural appearance.
By the end of the day, you will have a painting that, armed with the techniques and confidence, you can complete at home, with Dani at the end of an email should you need more help.
This is an intensive day of learning and looking. Basic experience of using oil paints is desirable for this course. This course is hosted at The Bell in Ticehurst in their large and very beautiful function room.
£130 to include materials, a light lunch and refreshments.
