MYTHICAL CREATURES STITCHING AND PAINTING WITH PHILIPPA KING AND MELISSA WHITE – 26th and 27th MARCH 2025
Spending two days interpreting one of Melissa White’s mythical creatures in paint and stitch last year was such a delight we are re-visting it. This time we are working with the leopard from Melissa’s Hedgerow collection for Kit Kemp.
DAY 1 - 26th March – Led by Philippa and Elspeth, stitching and painting into a templated artwork on linen designed by Melissa, inspired by Elizabethan stitched samplers. You can choose whether to paint, stitch or do a combination to create a mixed media artwork ready for framing. The picture works beautifully using very basic stitching that Philippa and Elspeth will teach you, but if you are more experienced you can put your stitching skills to good use.
DAY 2 - 27th March - Melissa will teach decorative painting techniques, including the secrets of aging and distressing that will help you create a stunning frame. We start with playful experimentation on paper before committing our designs to the frames. These are specially made for us by our local framers and are of the best quality.
We will be completely immersed in Melissa’s work as the wallpaper in our ‘classroom’ at The Bell was exclusively designed by Melissa. She also designs for the likes of Andrew Martin, Lewis & Wood and Zoffany and we are honoured to collaborate with her.
Philippa, Elspeth and Melissa will be with you on both days, and you will go home with a beautiful artwork that at once has feel of the ‘patination of time’ about it.
The course starts at 10am and finishes at 3.30pm on both days. No previous experience required.
For a very special experience, stay at The Bell in Ticehurst. We have an exclusive rate for this retreat, 2 nights for £280 including a slap up breakfast. This is based on two people sharing, so bring a friend or a partner as there are plenty of great things to do locally – a perfect staycation to explore the delights of the Kent/Sussex countryside or our favourite arty places locally. Accommodation is subject to availability so please BOOK DIRECT with The Bell - by calling 01580 200300 or booking on their website. There is a small reduction for single occupancy.
Should you be unable to attend, for whatever reason - we are unable to offer refunds for our courses. You are welcome to transfer your course to friends or family, please let us know who will be attending in your place. Alternatively we will try to sell your place via our database and social media once the course has reached capacity. If successful, we will refund or offer an alternative course subject to availability. Please note we will deduct a 10% admin charge for any refunds that are made.
